Why is local produce so different?

Why is local produce so different?

When you get your farm box from local farms, you’ll notice several things that are different than what you’re used to from the grocery store, or even other markets or big farm box companies.  For some, it may be a shock that the specially picked fruits and veggies aren’t all the same, and aren’t as big and shiny as expected.  But one taste, and you know it’s the real deal.  Local fruits and veggies are so much fresher, there’s no denying the difference in flavor.

Our Local Crops to our Tabletops

Local organic produce is simply as natural as it gets.  Although nature doesn’t produce picture perfect fruits and veggies every time, it does provide the healthiest and most delicious.  Supermarkets (yes, even them) will receive, store and shelf produce way longer than we do.  We all want the same things: fresh, local, healthy and delicious.  Most of us will always choose the most recently picked produce (if we know), Right?…perfect looking produce is for decoration or the subject of your painting class.

The farmers that Daily Harvest Express source from bring us what they’ve just picked.  It’s the most local, fresh, organic, healthy and delicious produce you can get…cared for through the season, gone through the growing cycle, ready to be enjoyed.  This is the way produce has been eaten since the beginning.  It’s only in modern times with supermarkets, that the demand for produce has incentivized grocers to find ways of preserving shelf life and grow profits.  We are happy to continue bringing you back to the farm, where you prepare what you pick.  Thanks for your support.

No out of state sourcing, artificial additives, picking before the proper time, truck ripening, or even gas ripening.

Getting What’s Real Every Season

If you’ve ever grown anything, you know the joy & satisfaction of seeing your plant live and grow through time.  You’ve also experienced the feeling of doing everything you thought was right only to lose your precious plant to natural elements.  That’s why we trust our farmers’ expertise to give us our food.  We can certainly appreciate that!  Wow, they know so much about growing seasonal produce.  Although we won’t get peaches in January, you will get tons of varieties of citrus in the winter since the growing cycle is complete.  This gives us something to look forward to each season!

Convenience

Our expectations of getting what we want, when we want & how we want it make for international industries to exist, but we lose what’s real, and even forget the quality of local.  Sourcing from other areas desensitizes us from seeing what is right in front of us in our own backyard, and to the hardworking people that are part of our community.   So thank you for caring for our area, our people & produce.  We are more than happy to share the convenience getting it delivered allows.
